Kaparte Promotions presents:

Opening act: RAF AND O (‘Lady Grinning Soul/ The Fog’ single launch)

1 APRIL 2013

LARSEN from Torino Italy, have been carving their own path in the avant/experimental rock landscape over 15 years of activity, with 14 full length albums, 2 eps, 2 dvds, got lot of press on both sides of the Atlantic and performed all over the world. Collaborations (in studio and/or on stage) with such artists as Michael Gira, Matmos, Martin Bisi, Matt Howden, Lustmord, Deathprod, Origami Galaktika, Backworld, Jarboe, Nurse With Wound, Fovea Hex, z’ev and sci-fi icon Christine Schell plus the project- a band in itself- XXL (aka Xiu Xiu + Larsen) as well as Larsen and Friends (along with David Tibet, Baby Dee, Julia Kent and Johann Johannsson) also stand out on their record. LARSEN has also released soundtracks, both for movies and theatre plays, including the award winner Cartoanimalettimatti (commissioned by the University of Torino for Winsor McKay’s silent animated movies). In 2008 legendary dub-diva Little Annie (a.k.a. Annie Anxiety Bandez) joined the band as lead singer and lyricist.

Little Annie aka Annie Anxiety Bandez, is a smokey contralto, raconteur and restless spirit who has spent the last 30 years creating a body of work that would take much more space than available here to list. Since stepping onto her first stage at the age of 16, her music – and her life – has defied categorization, limitations and/or restrictions her life often imitating her art and visa versa. A native New Yorker she is a chanteuse and lyricist, a self-taught painter, and multimedia artist.

She has recorded with vanguard figures of late twentieth century music -bringing a blend of tortured soul/ sardonic humour & wild love & awe of life to tracks she’s cut with everyone from Adrian Sherwood & the ON-U Sound Stable to Crass to Current 93, COIL, The Wolfgang Press, Jennie Mathias, Anthony Hegarty to Marc Almond.

The two piece band from South East London deliver a vortex of live electronics, acoustic instruments and fragile, magnetic, strange lullabies married to a pop spirit.

Press have described them as ‘Indietronic delicacy’ (Mixmag), ‘Emotively intense’ (Subba Cultcha) ‘Bewitching’ (Raveline Germany), delivering “Really excellently knitted experimental and cinematographic world’ (De-Bug Germany) whilst ‘They display outright pop mastery’ (Flux Magazine).

Raf and O have released 3 records on Geo including their debut album ‘A Giant In The Snow’ and a 10 inch vinyl to UK/ European acclaim, have extensively collaborated with Gagarin (Nico, Pere Ubu), are writing tracks with Robert Logan on a separate project and have supported amongst others Alabama 3, Rothko, Nedry and legendary Faust.

In anticipation of their second full-length album, Raf and O will celebrate by launching a new single ‘Lady Grinning Soul/ The Fog’. Often performed as the finale to the live set throughout 2012, their rework of David Bowie’s ‘Lady Grinning Soul’ is released alongside Raf and O mix of ‘The Fog’ with a remix by post-dubstep trio Nedry.
The Launch is at Cafe Oto, London, April 1st.
